A 63-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of right thumbnail dystrophy that had been present for two years. The patient denied pain, other local symptoms or a previous history of local trauma. On examination, a 1-mm wide band of longitudinal erythronychia (LE) was observed on the right thumb (figure 1A).
