It is a retrospective (2000-2007) study of 26 patients presenting an established cobalamin deficiency related to PA. Results. The median age of the patients was 51 years (24-79), the male/female ratio 0.73. The median delay of the diagnosis was 16 months (6-48). Various clinical manifestations, mainly neurological in 42.3%, cutaneous in 42,3% and gastric in 61,5 % were at least one hematological abnormalities in 100 %. Average serum vitamin B12 was very low in 84,6% (n \= 22) of cases. Anti-intrinsic factor or anti-parietal gastric cells antibodies were found in all the cases. All the followed patients were successfully treated with intramuscular (n \= 25) or oral crystalline cyanocobalamin (n \= 1). Conclusions. PA may be responsible of various clinical manifestations or biological abnormalities\; and oral crystalline cyanocobalamin treatment may be successful. |
